Joy to the World: Accepting the Gift

Joy to the world

The Lord has come.

Let Earth receive her King.

Let every heart

Prepare Him room.

It often takes me a long time to choose the perfect gift for someone. I want the gift to be something they’ll find joy in either for entertainment or necessity. Some people are hard to shop for because they buy their own things as they need them. But sometimes I come across items that are unique or unexpected – Something that could bring more peace, relief, and joy into their lives…like bluetooth speakers that look like a vintage radio.

The world was given a gift about 2,000 years ago (give or take) in the form of a baby born in a manger – the baby sent by God to save the world. This gift is given to everyone to bring peace, relief, and joy to all those who accept Him. The ones that accept the gift are given a wonderful inheritance: eternal life.

Many have not accepted this gift yet. Tis’ the season for many to walk around with painful hearts, no relief, and without the peace that only Jesus can provide. No one can bring that kind of freedom and rescue to themselves. We needed the gift God’s mercy. Who would’ve thought that a tiny, human baby would be that gift.

Perhaps this is your year to fully accept the promise of Christmas. All you have to do is ask for it with a ready and willing heart. It may be uncomfortable, but it will be the greatest gift you will ever receive.

You may be asking yourself…Okay, so where do I go from there? My best advice is to start reading the gospels to learn more about Jesus and His life on earth. And prayer. He doesn’t require eloquent words. Just talk to Him. Ask Him to speak to you through His words. He already knows you and loves you. All He asks is that you do get you get to know Him in your quiet time. It won’t be long before you start getting excited to spend time with Him. It won’t be long before you feel His acceptance of you.

About Me

My name is Nikki. I’m a suburban transplant who now lives a quiet life where morning light spills over pastures and the scent of cow manure fills the air. Between taking care of the home, tending to animals, and nurturing my garden, I’m learning over and over again to lift my eyes up and let God’s grace take over.

Here, I write about the beauty and ache of the everyday moments and ordinary days, about faith that takes root, and about a Savior who meets us in both the noise and the stillness. My prayers is that each story or reflection will point to Jesus so that you, dear reader, will find Him in the middle of your own everyday and ordinary moments.
