Who would’ve thought that the birth of one little baby would change the world forever?
The world needed a Savior. God had sent Moses to save His people and lead them out of Egypt. God would send another to save His people and lead them to eternal life in His kingdom.
In Deuteronomy 18:15, Moses told others that God will send us another prophet. This prophet would will give direction to all nations that will lead us to our Father in Heaven.
But this is just the beginning. Prophecies of The Messiah are written over 50 times throughout the Old Testament. The people of Israel have been waiting for this messiah. When He began His ministry, it was difficult to dispute that He was who He said He was because each one of the prophesies in the Old Testament have matched up to Jesus’ life and His death.
It was said that He would be born through the lineage of Abraham, Isaac, David, Judah, and Jacob. He would be born through a virgin (Isaiah 7:14) in Bethlehem (Micah 5:2). He would grow up to preach in parables (Psalm 78:1-2) beginning in Galilee (Isaiah 9:1-2). The Gentiles would gather around Him (Isaiah 11:10) and would be their redeemer (Isaiah 42:1-4). He would also be rejected and hated by others (Isaiah 53:3). He will be betrayed with 30 pieces of silver (Zechariah 11: 12-13) but none of His bones will be broken (Exodus 12:16). The two men being crucified on a cross alongside Jesus were taking too long to die, so they broke their legs. But Jesus was already dead so they didn’t break His. They stabbed Him with spear to make sure He was dead and blood poured out of Him (Leviticus 17:11).
There is so much more throughout Isaiah and Psalms.
This was His gift. He was born, lived to bring people together through God’s word and love as God loves, suffer an excruciating death, and rise from the dead…for you. This is a gift that can’t compare to whatever is on your Christmas list. Stuff is just stuff. The happiness it brings is temporary.
But not God’s gift. Not Jesus. That is a gift that keeps on giving.
This Christmas season, if you have not accepted this gift, I pray that this will be your season.
