All of Creation

, ,

Peering over a gate with a clear view of the field behind the barn, I watched as the calves and their mommas return after feeding on ryegrass for the past two hours. And then they started to play.

Head to head, several of them wrestled and ran together. I hadn’t seen them in this good of a mood in a long time. The summer heat wave and drought drained them, but now with a belly full of food they were craving for so long, they had energy to celebrate.

Now that it’s the start of a new year, I’m rereading the Bible again. Reading Genesis 1, with God speaking all things into existence, these happy cows are further evidence to why I believe in intelligent design.

Humans have had their hand in creation by planting vegetation, selective breeding and disease control, but their structure was conceived and produced by Him. They have muscle, bones, and a heart that pumps blood like we do. We eat foods that cause our brains and bodies to react in specific ways. The blueprint (along with every other living…and anything else that plays a role in sustaining life) is incredibly complex. It would be more miraculous if it all came together by chance than it would be coming from a Creator.

That’s why I firmly believe it takes more faith to lean on the side of Darwinism than it takes to lean on God.

As much as human race tries to nurture life, we have limited capabilities. Our cows still get sick. They get worms even after vaccinations. Antibiotics don’t always heal infected hooves, and cattle rub doesn’t always keep the flies and ticks away.

God is the One who sustains through His mighty hand.

I thank God for caring so much about His creation that He even brings joy to the cows.

About Me

My name is Nikki. I’m a suburban transplant who now lives a quiet life where morning light spills over pastures and the scent of cow manure fills the air. Between taking care of the home, tending to animals, and nurturing my garden, I’m learning over and over again to lift my eyes up and let God’s grace take over.

Here, I write about the beauty and ache of the everyday moments and ordinary days, about faith that takes root, and about a Savior who meets us in both the noise and the stillness. My prayers is that each story or reflection will point to Jesus so that you, dear reader, will find Him in the middle of your own everyday and ordinary moments.
