Anyone who has spent the slightest amount of time in the south knows what it’s like to step outside and wonder if lungs are capable of growing mildew.
At the time of writing this, our city ranks at number one as the most humid city in the United States. With air temperatures reaching 95+ degrees and a 0mph breeze, it won’t be long before the chickens start laying omelettes.
All creatures, big and small, find a space for shade, and each seem to have a favorite spot to go to.


Lucas spends his time in the garage while Lola finds refuge under the house.




Amos (our horse) has six trees throughout the property that he prefers to rest under. The herd finds sanctuary among the tree lines. Even when grazing, they’ll stay beneath the shadows of overhanging branches.
David wrote Psalm 3 when he escaped from his son, Absalom. Knowing that he was actively being hunted down by Absalom’s men, David found rest and comfort with God.
But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head….I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the LORD sustained me. (Psalm 3:3,5)
God is truly our refuge when life gets overwhelming. He’s our hiding place when the heat is strong, and we can find rest in Him when we need to catch our breath.
