Psalm 3: Finding Comfort and Rest in God as Our Refuge

,

Anyone who has spent the slightest amount of time in the south knows what it’s like to step outside and wonder if lungs are capable of growing mildew.

At the time of writing this, our city ranks at number one as the most humid city in the United States. With air temperatures reaching 95+ degrees and a 0mph breeze, it won’t be long before the chickens start laying omelettes.

All creatures, big and small, find a space for shade, and each seem to have a favorite spot to go to.

Lucas spends his time in the garage while Lola finds refuge under the house.

Amos (our horse) has six trees throughout the property that he prefers to rest under. The herd finds sanctuary among the tree lines. Even when grazing, they’ll stay beneath the shadows of overhanging branches.

David wrote Psalm 3 when he escaped from his son, Absalom. Knowing that he was actively being hunted down by Absalom’s men, David found rest and comfort with God.

But You, O LORD, are a shield about me, my glory, and the lifter of my head….I lay down and slept; I woke again, for the LORD sustained me. (Psalm 3:3,5)

God is truly our refuge when life gets overwhelming. He’s our hiding place when the heat is strong, and we can find rest in Him when we need to catch our breath.

About Me

My name is Nikki. I’m a suburban transplant who now lives a quiet life where morning light spills over pastures and the scent of cow manure fills the air. Between taking care of the home, tending to animals, and nurturing my garden, I’m learning over and over again to lift my eyes up and let God’s grace take over.

Here, I write about the beauty and ache of the everyday moments and ordinary days, about faith that takes root, and about a Savior who meets us in both the noise and the stillness. My prayers is that each story or reflection will point to Jesus so that you, dear reader, will find Him in the middle of your own everyday and ordinary moments.
