Digital Deception vs. Divine Promises (Psalm 12)

,

There are a lot of things in life I question. The world of technology spins fast, and it seems AI has created more questions than answers. Lifelike images, voices replicated, and deepfakes make me wonder if I can even trust what I see and hear.

I saw a video the other day of a baby at the zoo who somehow got on the wrong side of a gorilla habitat. All of a sudden a gorilla approaches and, with the gentlest of hands, passes the baby back to the safety of the mother’s arms.

Comments flooded in, brimming with people amazed at the gorilla’s empathy and tenderness.

The problem is the video was not captured at all. It was created, crafted, and constructed. Generated, not genuine. But because many were mesmerized by the moment they missed the inconsistencies.

While this video was likely created with entertainment in mind, the reaction of viewers points to a deeper issue that deserves attention: As the digital world becomes more sophisticated, so does deception.

The fake gorilla moment was heartwarming. But AI has stirred up terror.

Scammers are using social media outlets to clone voices, phone numbers, and even the contact photos of people we love. Guards drop and fear takes control as grandparents wire life-savings, convinced their grandchild’s life is in danger. Parents panic as they negotiate a ransom only to discover there was no kidnapping. It was all a lie.

This kind of deception goes beyond technological concerns; it can be a spiritual one.

Priscilla Shirer, a respected Christian author and speaker, has put out a warning that there are videos circulating around the internet of her preaching. They look like her. They sound like her. But it’s not her. Instead, it’s a computer generated version of her used to spread distorted and unbiblical messages.

In this spiritual battle when even the familiar can’t be trusted, we must cling to the truth of God’s Word.

An open Bible on a wooden surface with soft lighting, featuring a typed verse from Psalm 12:6 that reads, 'The LORD's promises are pure, like silver refined in a furnace, purified seven times over.'

Thanks be to God we don’t have question His promises.

His Word has stood the test of time. It has survived the fire of scrutiny. It has withstood the heat of skeptics and scholars. It still speaks, and it still saves.

Let God’s Word be the compass that guides you in the chaos. He won’t fail you.

Songs for seasons such as this:

“There’s a name that seals the promise, and it has the final say. All the things of earth are vapor in the light of His glory and grace.”
“Time and time again, You have proven You’ll do just what you said. Though the storms may come and the winds may blow, I’ll remain steadfast and let my heart learn when You speak a word it will come to pass.”
“Out of all the voices calling out to me, I will choose to listen and believe the Voice of Truth.”

About Me

My name is Nikki. I’m a suburban transplant who now lives a quiet life where morning light spills over pastures and the scent of cow manure fills the air. Between taking care of the home, tending to animals, and nurturing my garden, I’m learning over and over again to lift my eyes up and let God’s grace take over.

Here, I write about the beauty and ache of the everyday moments and ordinary days, about faith that takes root, and about a Savior who meets us in both the noise and the stillness. My prayers is that each story or reflection will point to Jesus so that you, dear reader, will find Him in the middle of your own everyday and ordinary moments.
